Academic Quadrathalon
The competition provides Saddle & Sirloin
members and other students the chance to test
their knowledge and skills when working with
animals. The contest consists of an oral presentation, written test, lab practicum, and a
team quiz bowl. It's held at UW-Madison and
UW-Platteville, where both schools compete. The
winning teams from both universities represent
their college at the regional contest in the spring.

Club 101
Our members help the Animal Science 101 students
learn about caring
for and exhibiting a horse, lamb, steer, heifer, or pig. To show off their
new skills, the students participate in showmanship contests for their
chosen animal.

Triathalon
Saddle & Sirloin assists in organizing and hosting
this annual contest, where colleges from
throughout the nation test their beef, sheep and
swine evaluation skills. Along with the meat
judging
portion, teams judge market animals and
breeding stock.
Meat Animal Evaluation Contest
This national competition consists of four divisions: breeding stock judging, market animal estimates and judging, meat judging, and a team communication division. The 2006 UW-Madison team placed eighth.
Animal Welfare Judging Contest
This year Saddle & Sirloin hosted the National
Animal Welfare Judging Contest. Teams test their
knowledge by evaluating farms and processing
facilities. Contestants deliver a team presentation,
analyze scenarios of the facilities and management,
and present their evaluation.
National Block & Bridle
Saddle & Sirloin is a proud member of the National
Block & Bridle. Each year, members attend the
National Block & Bridle Convention, where they
attend seminars, visit farms and ranches,
participate in industry tours, and interact with
fellow animal science enthusiasts.

American Collegiate Horseman’s Association
As an official member of the American Collegiate Horseman’s
Association (ACHA), we schedule local ACHA events and participate
in the national convention each year. We are also very lucky to
have one of our members, Jessica Schroeder, serve as the national
alumni relations officer!
